Itinerary

  1. Day 01: Bangkok to Kanchanaburi – Visit the Hellfire Pass Museum & Krasae Cave

Bid farewell to Bangkok as you journey three hours west to the scenic town of Kanchanaburi. Upon arrival, check into your hotel before heading out to explore the area's poignant history. Begin at the Hellfire Pass Museum, a moving tribute to the prisoners of war who constructed the infamous Thailand-Burma Railway, also known as the "Death Railway." The museum's compelling exhibits, artifacts, and photographs provide a vivid account of the immense suffering endured during its construction.

Take a walk along the historic railway and through the Hellfire Pass to reflect on the resilience and sacrifices of those who toiled here. Next, visit Krasae Cave, once used as a shelter by prisoners. Inside the small quarters, pause at the shrine honoring those who lived and suffered here.

Conclude the day with a walk across the iconic Bridge over the River Kwai for stunning views of the surrounding landscape, followed by a serene boat ride along the river. Learn more about the region's wartime history and hardships. The tour concludes at Don Rak War Cemetery, the resting place of many prisoners of war. The rows of headstones offer a sobering reminder of the immense loss this area witnessed.
    Overnight in Kanchanaburi.
  2. Day 02: Kanchanaburi – Ayutthaya – Travel to Chiang Mai or Bangkok

In the morning, leave Kanchanaburi for Ayutthaya, Thailand's former capital, a journey of just over an hour. Experience the grandeur of this ancient city through its stunning temple and palace ruins. Hop aboard a unique Kermit tuk-tuk—a charming vehicle found exclusively in Ayutthaya and Trang—to explore the city's highlights.

Visit Wat Yai Chaimongkol, Wat Mahathat (famous for the Buddha face entwined in tree roots), and the historic Wat Phra Srisanphet. Along the way, enjoy a stroll through a vibrant local market. Then, marvel at the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, an elegant complex showcasing a blend of European, Khmer, Thai, and Chinese architectural influences. Built during the Ayutthaya era, it remains a favorite retreat for the Thai royal family.

From Ayutthaya, your journey continues. Choose from these options:
    * Board a night train to Chiang Mai from Bang Pa-In Train Station.
    * Transfer to Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport for a domestic flight to Chiang Mai.
    * Drive back to Bangkok if preferred.
    * Overnight travel or in Chiang Mai, depending on your choice.
